Learning from Peter... Tuesday, 02 June 2009

If anybody had reason to take issue with the apostle Paul, it's Peter...

Gal 2:11...
"11When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong...."
What a young upstart this Paul was, daring to tell Peter he was a hypocrite in front of everyone, then writing to the Galatian church to tell them about it! Peter had plenty of reason to reject Paul, his apostleship and his correction..

And yet, this is how Peter regards Paul in his letter...

2Pet 3:15-16
"15Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction."
Peter regarded Paul's letters as having the weight of inspired scripture - what humility.

If we take offence easily, we will miss correction we may need to hear as well as closing our spiritual eyes to what God has placed in others.
